Leeds Security Guard saves the life of man who fell in river

Security guard, Danny Kesler, on duty at Asda Headquarters saw a man fall into River Aire early hours of the morning.

He witnessed the man walking Asda House Great Wilson Street at around 01:30AM when he suddenly lost his balance and fell into the water. Mr Kesler, said “he quickly ran outside and did what anyone else would do.”

Mr Kesler ran to the rescue from his desk to the riverbank. He called the fire service while the man was clutching on the length of cable Mr Kesler had thrown into the water in an attempt to save him.

Firefighters said when they arrived, they saw the stricken man “hanging on by his fingertips in the freezing water.”

Mr Burrows from West Yorkshire Fire Service said “The man was conscious and breathing throughout but very cold and borderline hypothermic.”

He firmly believed that Danny played a massive part in saving the life of the drowning man, especially as no one else was around that time of the morning.  If Danny Kesler hadn’t of seen him fall, things would have been very different.

Mr Kesler was “very modest about his efforts, but he really was the hero of the hour,” said Mr Burrows.

Danny Kesler said he was “really pleased” that the man was making a good recovery. He also thanked the firefighters for their quick response.
